On August 18, 2010, with a class of incoming 9th graders, a brand new charter school opened with an emphasis on preparing students for future careers in the health sciences. Health Sciences Charter School offers an intellectually rigorous college-prep education with NYS Regents or Advanced Regents diplomas, and Advanced Placement Courses. Backed by the strong hands-on commitment of our area health care industry partners, HSCS exposes students to career opportunities through a specialized classroom curriculum, laboratory based research, mentoring programs, and real-work internships. 

Impetus for founding the Health Sciences Charter School is the critical shortage of skilled workers to fill the many health-related positions that remain unfilled in the Buffalo Niagara region. These include nurses, medical technicians, therapists, pharmacists, health information technology specialists or technicians, case managers and numerous other skilled personnel needed to keep hospitals and other health providers fully staffed with qualified workers.

The school also encourages academically talented students to pursue careers in science and medicine.
