Program Overview
Health Sciences Charter School is proud to provide unique learning experiences for our students. By forming partnerships with local colleges and universities, we set ourselves apart from other schools by offering opportunities for our students to earn college credit during high school at no cost to the student.
The D’Youville Early College Bridge Program is an education experience that allows students to explore potential careers and earn college credits while still in high school. During the program, students have a chance to take college challenge courses taught by their high school teachers that lead to transferable credit and put them on a pathway to earn certificates and beyond.
During their rising junior and rising senior summers, students will participate in pre-collegiate summer camps that include tracks to explore careers. In addition to the courses throughout the school year, students will engage in experiences during the semester to develop college readiness and explore career options.
The Early College Bridge Program is more than students earning college credit — it is a fully integrated model:
-
Students earn credentials along the way, including certificates and degrees.
-
The program is a cohort-model, so that students can rely on and learn alongside each other.
-
Tutoring and careful career coaching is built in to keep students on track and to support them academically and personally.
-
Teacher professional development is built into the program to assist them in scaffolding their teaching, offering them a pedagogical model, and partnering them with college faculty for support.
