April 28, 2025 – Our hallways were bursting with extra smiles and a whole lot of curiosity this past Thursday for our annual Take Your Child To Work Day – and what a fantastic day it was! It’s always a joy to welcome the children of our staff and students, and this year was no exception, with a day packed full of fun and fascinating learning experiences.
One of the coolest parts of the day was seeing our youngest visitors team up with our amazing seniors and students from our CNA program for a hands-on CPR lesson. It was truly inspiring to watch these future lifesavers learn about when and how to help someone in need – a skill that could really make a difference. Our wonderful teacher, Nurse Brentnie Adams, then gave them a peek into the world of patient care, showing them our training hospital beds and manikins. Nurse Adams even brought out an interactive human torso model, leading a mini-exploration of what goes on inside us!
The creativity was flowing freely when it was time to decorate t-shirts! Each child received a special white tee featuring our Health Sciences logo and the super cute baby falcon mascot for our upcoming K-3 school, #LittleHealth (fingers crossed for that NYSED approval!). Our talented art teacher, Mrs. Denison, guided them in using fabric and paint markers to really make those shirts their own!
Then it was off to our awesome new Healthway building for some seriously fun science with our Head of School, Mr. Baxter! He had three incredible hands-on experiments lined up: using something called "Mr. Bob" to show how density works (it’s cooler than it sounds!), making string phones to actually feel how sound travels, and even creating gooey slime to learn about how different molecules link together. The kids were totally engaged!
What really made the day run so smoothly and feel extra special was the incredible support of our soon-to-be graduating seniors. These fantastic students acted as guides for the day, cheerfully taking the younger ones between activities, leading them in some energetic fun in the gym, treating them to a pizza party (always a hit!), and winding down the day with a movie, coloring, and board games. They were such wonderful role models!
We have to give a huge shout-out to the dynamic duo of Mrs. Pettway and Mrs. Fazekas for putting together such a fantastic and memorable day. Their hard work and dedication made all of this amazing learning and fun possible!
It’s moments like these that really highlight the strong sense of community we have here at Health Sciences. We loved sharing a little bit of our world with the next generation and hopefully sparking some future passions along the way!
