Happy Juneteenth from Health Sciences Charter School!
Affectionately known as a Historically Black High School, today we proudly celebrate our rich history, our hard-fought freedom, and the vibrant culture that defines us.
Juneteenth is a reminder of our resilience, our brilliance, and the unbreakable spirit of our community. As we continue to prepare high school students for the real world, we are also looking toward the future with great excitement.
Coming Soon: Little Health – an expansion of our mission to reach children at the earliest stages of their educational journey. We are committed to impacting lives one student at a time, and this next chapter allows us to nurture greatness from the very beginning.
Together, we honor the past, empower the present, and build for the future. 💚❤️🖤💛

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Health Sciences would like to acknowledge one of our amazing seniors, Shalea Manuel. Shalea was one of this year's recipients of the Triple A (Action, Accountability and Attitude) Award in recognition of her hardwork and her growth. Shalea was accepted into Morgan State, Jackson State, Georgia State, Norfolk State University, Buffalo State and Villa Maria College. Shalea plans to pursue a career in nursing as a Neonatal Nurse. She possesses a "passion for helping and speaking out for those who cannot speak for themselves". Shalea's favorite thing about Health Sciences is "how in tune the staff members are, they show the students lots of love and support". If Shalea could thank any staff member it would be "Ms. Maceira (Spanish teacher) for being a helping hand and shoulder to lean on when needed. I would like to thank Ms. Walls (Principal), for having open arms every time I needed someone to run to when I was having a tantrum or needed a moment. And Mr. Baxter (Head of Schools), for staying on me and nagging me to make sure I stayed out of trouble". If Shalea could go back and give her younger self advice it would be "Keep my head on a swivel and in the books. Stay out of the drama despite whatever may be going on around me". Shalea, your dedication to your academics and your growth as a young lady is remarkable. We wish you all the best. Congratulations!

Armani's favorite thing about Health Sciences is "all of the support" students receive from the teachers and staff. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Health Sciences would like to recognize Jayda Coleman. Jayda is a hard working, talented young lady who is dedicated to her academic success. Jayda was a member of the cheer team her sophomore year and is currently a member of the School Improvement Team as a student council representative. Jayda will be attending Coppin State in Baltimore, Maryland as a Nursing major with a minor in Early Childhood Development. Over the summer, Jayda plans to receive her PCA certification before she leaves for Baltimore. Jayda's favorite thing about Health Sciences is that "it is a family and no one is singled out, especially urban kids. In other schools urban kids don't feel welcomed but Health welcomes us, loves and supports us. They may yell and fuss but it is all love." If Jayda could thank anyone, it would be one of our teacher assistants, Ms. Osman and her math teacher, Ms. Acker. "I have so much appreciation for Ms. Osman and Ms. Acker. Osman is more than a teacher in my eyes. She helps with things that are related to school and things outside of that and pushes me to be my best self. I love her for that. She's been there since freshman year and has not given up on me. Ms. Acker really works with me no matter the situation. Senior year had some bumps in the beginning and started off rocky for me. Acker was so understanding of that and stayed after school just to help me complete my work." If Jayda could go back and give her freshman self any advice she would say "live life stress free and don't worry about things you cannot control". Jayda, it has been a pleasure watching you blossom into the wonderful young lady that you are. Keep your eyes on the goal and watch where life takes you! Congratulations!
