SENIOR SPOTLIGHT:  Health Sciences would like to celebrate one of our shining stars, K'Shyla Harris. K'Shyla is a soft-spoken, hardworking young lady who has been a pleasure to work with since the moment we met her. She is one whose actions certainly speak louder than words and has always been about her business. K'Shyla has been accepted to Georgia State, Morgan State, Villa Maria and LSU. K'Shyla plans to attend college and pursue a career in Nursing with the hopes of becoming a Pediatric Registered Nurse. K'Shyla's favorite thing about Health Sciences is "the way the staff cares about the students and how they treat us like we are their kids. They go above and beyond to make sure we are okay in or outside of school." If K'Shyla could thank any staff member it would be "Ms. Gilly, Ms. Osman and Coach Ty for always being there for me and continuing to push me and encouraging me not to give up no matter how hard school or life gets. I cannot imagine my four years in high school anywhere else besides Health." If K'Shyla could go back and give her freshman-self advice it would be to "stay focused and do your work. But don't forget to make a lot of memories because the four years go by so quickly." Congratulations K'Shyla, we appreciate having a hard working young lady like you as part of the Health Sciences family! Best wishes to you in all of your future endeavors.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Health Sciences would like to acknowledge one of our amazing seniors, Lamira Wright! Lamira has participated in cheer, track and peer tutoring. Lamira is one of our most dependable and helpful students. If we need student leadership for something, Lamira is one of our go-to students. Lamira was accepted to many colleges, some of them are Clark Atlanta University, Villa Maria College, Buffalo State, Robert Morris University among many others. Lamira completed an internship with the Honorable Judge Sam Davis and she is planning to pursue a career in law to become a Family Law Attorney. One thing that Health Sciences has that Lamira believes sets us apart from other schools is a "strong support system" for our students. If Lamira could thank anyone it would be "Mrs. Pettway because she always pushed me to be better and knew I had a lot of potential. She never gave up on me. She always made sure I was on top of everything so I can become someone amazing. She’s my knight in shining armor and I appreciate her more than she knows." If Lamira could go back and give advice to her freshman-self she would say "Don’t let anyone get you off track because you have everything to lose, they don’t. Don’t get too distracted and fall off. Be better and learn self control. Stop trying to fit in and don't let people get you out of character and just be you because everyone isn’t going to like you and that’s ok." Lamira, we are extremely proud of your growth and we are wishing you all the best! Congratulations!

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: We would like to recognize Staz Chiddick, one of our amazing seniors! Staz is a member of our basketball team and was a key player this season in our championship games. Staz is a member of National Honor Society, Student Government and our Worthy Hands Art Program and is an extremely hard worker in and out of the classroom. Staz was named Most Valuable Athlete and Scholar Athlete at our scholarship banquet. Staz was accepted into several colleges, Hilbert College, Bryant and Stratton, SUNY Cortland, SUNY Niagara and SUNY Geneseo to name a few. Staz plans to go into accounting and/or Real Estate. One of his favorite things about Health Sciences is that there are "a lot of programs to assist students with becoming whatever they want to be in life". If Staz could thank any staff members it would be Mr. Allan and Ms. Denison because they are "great company and I love to be around them". If Staz could go back and tell his freshman self anything it would be "be normal and don't voice your opinion about every little thing too often". Staz, we have no doubt that you will do great things and we cannot wait to witness it! Congratulations!

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: We would like to take time to recognize Letorrance Travis who was one of the recipients of the Career Discovery Award. Letorrance is a soft-spoken, charismatic young man who is full of potential. Letorrance has been accepted to ECC, Northland Workforce and Villa Maria College. Letorrance is deciding between becoming a Real Estate Investor, a Construction Worker and a Entrepreneur. Letorrance successfully completed his internship with Andrew School Realty to gain experience in the world of Real Estate. When asked what is something Health Sciences has that other schools do not have, Letorrance's response was "A Mrs. Pettway". Mrs. Pettway who serves as our Director of Community Engagement, Marketing and Events is always looking for opportunities to support students like Letorrance find what they are passionate about and give students opportunities to pursue those careers. Letorrance would like to thank "Gilly, Trev and Mrs. Pettway because they have helped shape the positive mindset that he has today." SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Health Sciences would like to recognize another one of our seniors, Jason Allen. Jason was accepted to several colleges: Fisher College, Buffalo State, Nazareth University, Coppin State and Morgan State, and many others. Jason plans to attend Erie 1 Boces after high school to obtain his LPN and continue on to become a Registered Nurse. Jason is currently enrolled in our CNA class here at Health Sciences. Jason's favorite thing about Health is that "it is not just a school, it is a family. Everyone there supports you in so many ways and you'll never feel alone". If Jason could thank any staff member it would be Ms. Officer, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction. "Officer is really like a second mom to me. She pushes me to be a better me and encourages me to do things that I didn't think I could do. Officer sees my true potential even when I cannot see it and it is one of the things I love most about her. She is there for me on my worst days. She is a shoulder I can cry on and the person I can vent to when I have a heavy heart. I want to thank her for being my biggest supporter and my biggest inspiration." If Jason could go back and offer advice to his freshman-self he would tell himself "not everybody deserves your time. Don't let people waste your time especially if it is not benefiting you." We are proud of all you have accomplished and we cannot wait to witness all of the great things you will do. Congratulations!

Ny'aja was accepted into several colleges including Coppin State, Buffalo State, Hilbert College, and Fisher College.  Ny'aja would like to start her own daycare in the future. Her favorite thing about Health Sciences is that "Health is a family, they know when something is wrong, they know when you are mentally struggling and they will continue to help you until you are better. They offer so many opportunities that other schools don't." If Ny'aja could thank anyone she would thank every staff member at Health because "they all showed me love differently and pushed me in their own way. I wouldn't have wanted to spend my four years of high school anywhere else." If Ny'aja could go back and give herself advice as a 9th grader she would say "keep your circle small and get your work done when it is given." Congratulations, Ny'aja. We are so proud of your growth and we are rooting for you!

When asked what she loves most about Health Sciences she stated, "the love and community with the teachers and students. It is a real connection that doesn't seem fake or like it only exists when we are in school. We have a connection with our teachers and counselors in and out of school." If she could thank anyone, she said it would be Mr. Ross, her ELA teacher and Wrestling Coach. Lanaee said "He has done so many things for me and other students around the school. I really appreciate him for everything he has done. Mr. Ross is the main reason I passed my ELA Regents exam and the main reason I keep going everyday and decided to apply to colleges. He helped me through a lot and I am just really appreciative of him and thankful. He is like a cousin and an uncle all in one. Thank you Coach Ross. I love you!" If Lanaee could give her freshman-self some advice it would be "have fun, get good grades and make it the best time of your life". Congratulations Lanaee, we cannot wait to see where life takes you!
