SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Health Sciences would like to recognize Jayda Coleman. Jayda is a hard working, talented young lady who is dedicated to her academic success. Jayda was a member of the cheer team her sophomore year and is currently a member of the School Improvement Team as a student council representative. Jayda will be attending Coppin State in Baltimore, Maryland as a Nursing major with a minor in Early Childhood Development. Over the summer, Jayda plans to receive her PCA certification before she leaves for Baltimore. Jayda's favorite thing about Health Sciences is that "it is a family and no one is singled out, especially urban kids. In other schools urban kids don't feel welcomed but Health welcomes us, loves and supports us. They may yell and fuss but it is all love." If Jayda could thank anyone, it would be one of our teacher assistants, Ms. Osman and her math teacher, Ms. Acker. "I have so much appreciation for Ms. Osman and Ms. Acker. Osman is more than a teacher in my eyes. She helps with things that are related to school and things outside of that and pushes me to be my best self. I love her for that. She's been there since freshman year and has not given up on me. Ms. Acker really works with me no matter the situation. Senior year had some bumps in the beginning and started off rocky for me. Acker was so understanding of that and stayed after school just to help me complete my work." If Jayda could go back and give her freshman self any advice she would say "live life stress free and don't worry about things you cannot control". Jayda, it has been a pleasure watching you blossom into the wonderful young lady that you are. Keep your eyes on the goal and watch where life takes you! Congratulations!

Lamira completed an internship with the Honorable Judge Sam Davis and she is planning to pursue a career in law to become a Family Law Attorney. One thing that Health Sciences has that Lamira believes sets us apart from other schools is a "strong support system" for our students. If Lamira could thank anyone it would be "Mrs. Pettway because she always pushed me to be better and knew I had a lot of potential. She never gave up on me. She always made sure I was on top of everything so I can become someone amazing. She’s my knight in shining armor and I appreciate her more than she knows." If Lamira could go back and give advice to her freshman-self she would say "Don’t let anyone get you off track because you have everything to lose, they don’t. Don’t get too distracted and fall off. Be better and learn self control. Stop trying to fit in and don't let people get you out of character and just be you because everyone isn’t going to like you and that’s ok." Lamira, we are extremely proud of your growth and we are wishing you all the best! Congratulations!
